Story 09 ✐ video/text

[retrogrades]

[A very familiar BZZZZZT! is heard, but not the usual hiss that comes along with it. In fact... you can't hear much of anything. The communicator has turned itself on, set to video, bu from where it's positioned you can't see anything except a photo of someone who looks a bit like Chihiro, yet not.

... and the video seems content to focus on that until it times itself out when a sudden alarm clock goes off, coming from the communicator (an old gift from Taiwan)! One of the annoying ones, you know the kind.

There's a small groan before a hand comes from seemingly nowhere, turning off the alarm and blocking the camera. Seeing as how this was a bit of a sleep smash, a few other buttons are accidentally pushed and the following appears in text:]

The girl is the only one in the world. That made her the god of this world...|

I'm afraid there isn't anymore to it. At least, not yet... though I'm not sure if I can continue.

There are... certain difficulties, I suppose. I don't think I'm really suited for writing.

Yes, though I doubt I'm very good at it.

Being good and enjoying it aren't the same thing. You don't have to be good at what you enjoy doing, as long as you enjoy it. You should continue to do what you enjoy as long as you are having fun.

Of course. I think most everything a person does should be fun for them first. If you don't enjoy it, what's the point in doing it? If you do something because you're good at it, but don't enjoy it that's no good. And if you stop something you may not be great at, but love it, you're only cheating yourself.

I see... I suppose you're right! Enjoying it is the most important thing.

Of course, life would be very dull if we ignored what we enjoyed.

If you don't mind me asking, what is it that you enjoy, Kantarou-kun?

I enjoy making friends with youkai. I also enjoy writing about them so everyone can understand them just a little better.

With youkai? You mean they exist?

Of course they do, though, not everyone believes it, or can see them.

Well, in some cases very much like the stories, but in others not so different from you or I.

I see. Have you written a lot of stories about them, then?

I've published several books on the subject, and have written a lot of articles as well. It's my profession actually.

As someone who enjoys writing, you're a very admirable person, Kantarou-kun! To be able to write stories as your profession is amazing.

Well, there are quite a lot of professional writers out there, and it can be a bit hard especially when my editor gets mad at me.

And when my books don't sell that well... but I already spent my advance and then Youko chan yells at me for the fact we have to start rationing the rice....

Still, to persevere through writing so many stories... and to know that someone out there is reading and enjoying them... it sounds wonderful.

Don't be, I found it interesting, and... I specialize in folklore anyway. I tend to publish essays and reference material. So there's really nothing to be embarrassed about.

Mm. I really like stories in general, but it's easier for me to try and write them than read.
